TrueSkill Rating System

LexiLayers uses a TrueSkill-based rating system to measure player skill in competitive modes.

How It Works

Your rating has two components:

  • μ (mu) — Your estimated skill level (starts at 1500)
  • σ (sigma) — Uncertainty in that estimate (starts at 200, decreases as you play more)

Rating Changes

  • Win against higher-rated players: Big rating gain
  • Win against lower-rated players: Small rating gain
  • Lose to higher-rated players: Small rating loss
  • Lose to lower-rated players: Bigger rating loss

Which Modes Use Ratings?

  • Versus (1v1) — Full rating impact
  • Multiplayer Party — Rating impact based on placement
  • Elimination — Higher rating impact due to stakes
  • Face-Off — Rating updates when all players finish (both public and private!)
Private Games Count Too! Both public matchmaking AND private challenges with friends affect your rating. Playing against friends still counts toward your skill rating!
New Player Note: Your first ~10 games will have larger rating swings as the system learns your skill level. This stabilizes over time.
